MANIFESTO
Art Riot Press exists because publishing has gates – and gates are designed to keep people out. We believe Scotland’s cultural landscape is richer than its gatekeepers. Community is more powerful than algorithm.
We believe art is political whether it admits it or not.
We believe culture is shaped by who gets printed. We believe working-class, queer, migrant, disabled, feminist, and anti-racist voices are not “emerging” – they are essential.
We are proud to be rooted in Scotland. Not the postcard version. The real one. The one built on labour, resistance, migration, protest, and community.
We believe:
Art should cost something.
Artists should be paid fairly.
Art should unsettle.
Art should agitate.
We will platform emerging voices alongside established ones. We will publish those considered outside the narrative who refuse to stay silent.
We will prioritise integrity over scale. We will grow slowly and deliberately. We are building something transparent, sustainable, and brave.
We are building it with you.
We are subscription-supported because we answer to community, not corporations. We believe publishing should feel human again, from the grassroots up.
Art Riot Press is not here to decorate the cultural landscape. It is here to interrogate it.
Art is not passive.
Art shapes what becomes possible.
Art images better futures.
If you are looking for something safe, this is not it.
If you are looking for fierce, bold, cultural resistance…
Welcome to the riot!
